This photo is TJ Sheehan following his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel. Sheehan's promotion came on Sept. 1, 1865 and the regiment mustered out on Sept 6, 1865. One would suspect it to be a political promotion. Following his discharge from the Army, Sheehan was called Col. Sheehan and this served him well. He served as Freeborn County Sheriff from 1872 through 1884 when he took a position as the Agent at White Earth Reservation in northern Minnesota.
