He held the rank of 1st Lieutenant during the Dakota War of 1862, being promoted following his gallantry at Fort Ridgely. On August 31, 1862, Captain Frank Hall was promoted to Major following the resignation of Colonel Von Borgersrode at which time Lt Col Hubbard was promoted to Colonel of the 5th Minnesota Regiment Volunteer Infantry. https://fifthminnesotacompanyc.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=76509150 76509150 Lt. Col. Sheehan This photo is TJ Sheehan following his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel. Sheehan's promotion came on Sept. 1, 1865 and the regiment mustered out on Sept 6, 1865. One would suspect it to be a political promotion. Following his discharge from the Army, Sheehan was called Col. Sheehan and this served him well. He served as Freeborn County Sheriff from 1872 through 1884 when he took a position as the Agent at White Earth Reservation in northern Minnesota. https://fifthminnesotacompanyc.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=76510672 76510672 Pvt Daniel Dills, Co.
